Under the Privacy Act, agencies may exempt certain types of records from certain provisions of the Act. However, the system of records must specifically exempt a category or type of records in order to prevent its disclosure. Investigative material compiled for law enforcement purposes is exempt from the Privacy Act. If investigative reports are found in the military service record, they are not releasable.
